Cristiano Ronaldo ‘could ask to leave Man Utd if they do not qualify for the Champions League next season’

CRISTIANO RONALDO could reportedly ask to leave Manchester United if they do not qualify for next season’s Champions League.

United sit two places and five points outside the top four, and if their fortunes do not change, they could lose their talisman at the end of the season.

Ronaldo has saved the day with dramatic late goals on several occasions this season since his summer switch from Juventus.

But the superstar’s heroism alone has not been enough to prevent the Reds from losing six of their last 12 with the pressure on Ole Gunnar Solskjær.

And if they finish outside the top four and do not win the Champions League, United could play in one of the European tournaments next season, or worse, no European football at all.

If United are absent from UEFA’s flagship tournament, Ronaldo, 36, could look set to leave Old Trafford, according to Express.

Ronnie has scored nine goals in 12 games since his return to Old Trafford.

Earlier this week, it was reported that United’s players turn on under-shooting of Solskjær.

Bruno Fernandes is said to have been frustrated by the lack of any clear plan at Old Trafford.

And Ronaldo is reported to be shocked at how far the standards have slipped in the club.

Senior players are reported to be tired after a series of meek performances that have seen them schooled by derby rivals.

Last month’s 5-0 defeat to Liverpool was followed by Saturday’s 2-0 loss to rivals Manchester City.

United also sent four goals to Leicester and have relied on Ronaldo to save them in the consecutive Champions League clash with Atalanta.

Fernandes is reportedly worried that Solskjær’s inflated staff does not have a clear vision of how they want the team to play.

Others are reported to be concerned that backroom staff lack the experience needed to compete at the highest level.

Questions are also being asked about the status of teammates like Donny van de Beek and Jadon Sancho.

Van de Beek seems to be in disfavor with Solskjær, even though he moved to Dreams Theater for £ 39 million back in September last year.

And there are fears that Sancho’s progress will falter after his blockbuster transfer from Dortmund in July.

United next meet Watford after the international break.
