The Chicago Cubs went on a rampage against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday night, accomplishing a feat they haven’t done in more than 100 years.
The Cubs stole eight bases from the Pirates, taking advantage of a tough day behind the plate for Yasmani Grandal.
Pete Crow-Armstong led the way with three stolen bases, giving him 26 for the season. Ian Happ also had two stolen bases in the game, while Seiya Suzuki, Nico Hoerner and Cody Bellinger all got in on the fun.
According to Stathead, the Cubs hadn’t stolen eight bases in a game since 1911, when they accomplished the feat three times.
The team record for stolen bases in a single game is 10, while the MLB record for stolen bases in a single game is 15. That record was set by the New York Yankees in 1911, according to the website.
Since MLB implemented limits on steal attempts and larger bases, three teams have stolen at least eight bases in a game before today. Before that, there had been only seven teams since 2000 that had done so.
