David C. Smalley is quickly making a name for himself in the world of comedy thanks to his relatable humor.
Known for his stand-up performances and podcast girl problems – where he co-stars with his daughter Talissa – Smalley connects in a meaningful way with his audience.
Originally from the small town of Everman, Texas, Smalley credits his upbringing for his unique sense of humor, and his parents played a large role in shaping his current comedic style. His journey into comedy began when he was inspired by Richard Pryor’s ability to turn tragedy into joy. “The idea that comedy could arise from tragedy and bring joy to so many people changed my life,” he recalls. Smalley revealed that his interest in comedy was sparked by a simple remark from his father at the dinner table. “Thousands of comedians are out of work and you’re trying to be funny,” his father said, leading Smalley to think, “Wait…people get paid for that?” Feeling unfulfilled in his 9-5 jobs, he began hosting his own comedy shows and producing content long before podcasts became mainstream. “I was the only one who wouldn’t say no to me,” he joked.
Currently touring major U.S. cities, Smalley keeps his fans engaged with a personal touch. With 1.7 million followers on TikTok, his relatable and energetic videos have made him a favorite of many.
