A Birmingham woman has been left petrified after a Deliveroo food delivery reportedly containing a razor blade left her rushing to A&E.
Samantha Jordanne, from the Moseley area of the city, dropped everything and headed to the nearest hospital after she was cut by a razor blade that she believes was maliciously attached to her Subway food order this weekend.
The shockingly sharp blade had been taped to the handle of her Subway sandwich bag, which she had ordered using the Deliveroo app. Despatched from a local branch of the restaurant, the shaken customer has claimed the food package was dropped off to her by a man behaving suspiciously.
“I ordered a Subway on Deliveroo and the delivery driver had attached a razor blade to the bag handle! I caught the guy on my Ring doorbell acting suspicious and handing me the bag in a thick leather glove, which I thought was weird at the time.
“I only discovered the razor blade later when it cut into my finger as I tried to put it in the bin! I rushed to A&E where they cleaned, disinfected it and gave me a tetanus shot.
“I didn’t realise until it cut into my finger later when I went to dispose of the bag,” she said.
Ms Jordanne shared details of the incident online earlier today (9 July), along with video captured by her digital doorbell.
In the footage, a man is seen handing her the packaged food item with what appears to be the opening of the bag firmly in his grasp, facing away from her as she opens the door. He also appears to handle the item with a black glove on one hand, before removing it as he returns to his vehicle.
“I initially found it odd that he was wearing just one thick, black, leather glove when he handed me the food.
“In the footage he takes the leather glove off straight away once he delivers the food, which just proves that he not only knows about the razor blade, but that he is also trying to protect himself from harm!”
Jordanne believes the delivery driver is the likely culprit behind the blade being attached to her food delivery and has since reported the horrifying incident to the police, as well as filing a complaint with British online food delivery company Deliveroo.
After attending to her injury, she immediately posted details from the disturbing experience to Facebook and Twitter in the hope of alerting others, stating she wants “to warn people now before he does something worse!”
“The police are looking into it, but I needed to share this now and warn people because I’m afraid that he’ll do it again!
“I contacted Deliveroo who have been shockingly unconcerned and unhelpful in their response and are not doing anything to stop this man.
“He is still out there delivering food! Be careful! Don’t accept food if you see him, or if you see someone with a suspicious looking glove handing you food!
“Please share this everywhere and warn your friends and family about this guy! He needs to be stopped!”
Responding to her online post on Twitter, a spokesperson for Deliveroo said, “I’m so sorry about that. Please DM us with more information on the exact location and your contact number so our Rider Operations team can investigate,” but Ms Jordanne dismissed the response as “passive and automated”.
“Deliveroo have done nothing to provide information, sympathy or help. They are doing nothing to acknowledge this crime or to stop this man! Their response has been passive and automated and I am appalled by their lack of concern.”
After reading about her ordeal online, friends of Ms Jordanne have called for an investigation to be launched, with some demanding the driver’s arrest. According to Jordanne, West Midlands Police have logged and are looking into the incident but haven’t yet confirmed any details publicly.
At the time of writing, Subway hadn’t yet responded to Ms Jordanne’s public complaint.
I Am Birmingham has reached out to West Midlands Police for a response to this incident.
