Manchester United have put a ‘dizzying’ financial package to Ronald Araujo and are willing to pay double what Barcelona offer the center-back, as per reports.
Araujo is forming a solid defensive partnership with Gerard Pique. He has made 34 appearances so far this term, scoring four times.
The nine-cap Uruguay international has helped Barcelona to go on a 13-match unbeaten run, which stretches back to January.
Xavi wants Araujo to remain at the Nou Camp as part of his long-term project. However, Barca risk losing the 23-year-old this summer.
His contract runs out in 2023 and is worth £ 35,000 a week. That is far less than most of his team-mates.
As such, Araujo may consider offers from elsewhere. And if he decides against a new Barca deal, then the Spanish outfit will have to sell in the near future.
On Monday, Araujo said he is ‘optimistic’ over extending his spell in Catalonia. Despite this, Manchester United are vying with Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City for his services.
Ronald Araujo receives ‘dizzying’ proposal
Sport Witness provide an update on United’s transfer hunt, while citing the latest reports in Spain.
They claim United have put a ‘dizzying’ offer to Araujo and his representatives. However, the report does not reveal exactly how much it is worth.
It’s also revealed that Barca have given the central defender a sum of their own. But they are at risk of being trumped as United are ‘offering double’ this amount.
The report ends by claiming ‘everything is pending’ over the star’s future, as he weighs up his next destination.
Araujo will likely fetch a big fee thanks to his dominant displays in La Liga. transfer market put his value at £ 36m.
However, the fact his contract is running down means United, or any other suitor, may get a slight discount.
Ralf Rangnick currently has Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane as his first-choice pairing. But Maguire continues to pick up criticism, leading to calls for a new center-half to be brought in.
The arrival of Araujo would surely result in the United skipper improving his game.
