Donald Trump to now install bulletproof glass at his outdoor events

Former President Trump will now have bulletproof glass around his podium for outdoor events, a federal law enforcement source briefed on the planning told Fox News.

Indoor events, meanwhile, will not involve the same level of protection, the source confirmed.

The extra level of protection comes after an assassination attempt on the former president at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, last month.

The president was addressing the crowd outdoors just minutes into his speech when a gunman fired at him from the roof of a nearby building.

Trump managed to turn his head and duck under the podium. A Secret Service member killed the shooter seconds after he opened fire.

Trump was hit in the ear but was not seriously injured. One spectator in the audience was killed and two others were injured.

The security breach led to increased surveillance by the secret services, which were responsible for coordinating their activities with local law enforcement.

Fury over the security breach grew after it was revealed that law enforcement had identified the shooter – later identified as Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20 – as a suspect an hour before the rally began but lost track of him.

Crooks was able to scale the roof of a building owned by AGR International Inc., a supplier of automation equipment to the glass and plastic packaging industry, and fire about eight rounds from an AR-15-style rifle.
