President-elect Donald Trump’s approval rating has improved since his victory in the 2024 election, according to recent poll results.
An average of recent polls compiled by 538 indicates that Trump is viewed favorably by 45 percent of the public, with 50.4 percent having an unfavorable view as of Tuesday evening.
Although the president-elect still had a net unfavorable rating of 5.4 percent, the average has improved significantly since Election Day, when Trump’s net unfavorable rating was 9.5 percent.
Some of the most recent polls suggest that Trump is now viewed favorably by a majority of Americans, with the latest poll released Tuesday by Emerson College showing the president-elect with a net favorability rating of 8 percent.
The poll, conducted among 1,000 registered voters Nov. 20-22, found that 54 percent of respondents had a “very” or “somewhat” favorable opinion of Trump, while 46 percent had a very or somewhat unfavorable opinion.
Trump’s approval rating jumped 6 percentage points after his victory on November 5, with an Emerson poll conducted before the election showing him at 48 percent favorable.
“President Trump won in historic fashion and now has a clear mandate to govern,” Trump communications director Steven Cheung said in an email to News week. “The American people clearly support and approve of his choices to build a Cabinet and an administration that reflects the will of the people.”
The Emerson poll did not show strong support for Trump from all groups, with only 28% of black voters viewing the president-elect favorably. Female voters and all voters over 70 were also less likely to have favorable opinions.
“Trump favorability varies widely by gender, race and age,” Spencer Kimball, executive director of Emerson College Polling, said in a statement. “Trump’s largest demographic is among voters aged 40 to 59, with 60% of them viewing him favorably, compared to 48% among those over 70.”
“His popularity has notably increased among younger voters, with 55% of those under 30 expressing a favorable opinion,” Kimball added.
The new Emerson poll’s credibility interval, akin to a margin of error, was 3 percent.
A number of other recent polls have also shown Trump with a positive net favorability rating, including a YouGov poll released last week that found the president-elect 5 points above water.
Among all adults, 51 percent viewed Trump favorably in the YouGov poll, while 46 percent viewed him unfavorably. Somewhat surprisingly, the largest increase in support for the 78-year-old president-elect came from the youngest group of voters.
The poll found that 57% of Americans aged 18 to 29 had a favorable opinion of the new president, giving Trump a massive net increase of 19 points in favorability among the population compared to a poll conducted on 9 and 12 november.
“Young people carried President Trump to victory,” wrote Charlie Kirk, Trump ally and founder of Turning Point USA. sharing the results of the poll on X, formerly Twitter. “Make no mistake, a profound and historic generational realignment is underway.”
The YouGov poll was conducted among 1,590 U.S. adults from November 17-19 and has a margin of error of 2.5%.
