EDEN CONFIDENTIAL: Mystery as Damien Hirst’s son quits £21m family firms

When Damien Hirst made his eldest son, Connor, a director of two of his biggest companies, it looked like the world’s richest artist had found the heir apparent to his estimated £300 million fortune.

But Connor, who is also now an artist, has sparked intrigue by suddenly quitting both roles.

‘It’s a bit of shock,’ a source tells me.

A spokesman for Hirst, 57, declines to comment on the reasons for the resignations, confirmed by paperwork filed at Companies House last month.

The documents report that Connor, 27, resigned from both positions on June 23, just over a year after being made a director at art production company Science (UK), as well as at a second business, Prints and Editions.

The companies had a combined turnover of £21.3 million, according to the latest figures.

Connor played a significant role in his father’s career at the age of five when his toy anatomy set was turned into a 20ft bronze model. Hirst was sued for breach of copyright.

Earlier this year, I reported that Science (UK), Hirst’s off-shore parent company which is based in Jersey, had taken money from hard-pressed taxpayers, having claimed £1.31 million from the Covid job retention scheme. That was despite the business making £18.2 million in the pandemic.

Turner Prize winner Hirst, famed for preserving dead animals in formaldehyde, employs a factory of assistants who make art which is then sold on to Science (UK).

He’s previously said he sees his art as ‘a brand produced in a factory’, that anyone can do. ‘No, I don’t believe in genius,’ he once said. ‘I believe in freedom. I think anyone can do it. Anyone can be like Rembrandt.’

The former enfant terrible of British art lives with his girlfriend Sophie Cannell, who is 28 years his junior, and their three French bulldogs, Pablo, Chapo and Blanco, at his £36 million 14-bedroom home in Regent’s Park, London, which even has its own stripper pole.

He was previously in a long-term relationship with fashion designer Maia Norman and they have three sons: Connor, Cassius, 22, and Cyrus, 16.

Korea highlight for Jane Seymour

JAne Seymour is such a keen advocate of marriage she’s done it not once, not twice . . . but four times.

Now her son Kris Keach has got married twice — to the same woman.

Kris, 26, who is the Hollywood star’s son with her fourth husband, film director James Keach, exchanged vows at the weekend with his bride, Miso, in her native South Korea.

They had already held one wedding, at Seymour’s California estate in December. Covid travel restrictions had prevented Miso’s family from travelling to the U.S. for the first ceremony.

London-born Seymour, 71, wore a traditional hanbok dress selected by her daughter-in-law and given to her by Miso’s parents.

Despite the heatwave, sunny Margate has lost its appeal for aristocratic TV cook Gizzi Erskine, who’s quit as executive chef at a new seafront cafe in the Kent resort after less than a year. She had set up the Love Cafe with The Libertines singer Carl Barat. ‘It simply comes down to us wanting different things, which was resulting in the business evolving into something I wasn’t entirely happy with,’ she explains. Adding that the food is now ‘secondary’, she says: ‘I was being told my ideas were not suitable for the town.’

Sir Mick’s mini-me’s got the moves like Jagger

Whether it’s the pout, shaggy hair, skinny jeans or the confident rock star pose, there’s no doubt that this little boy has inherited his father’s genes. Deveraux Jagger, even at the age of five, looks remarkably similar to his Rolling Stones singer dad, Sir Mick, who turns 79 this month.

The boy’s mother, American ballerina Melanie Hamrick, 35, shared this photograph of them before they went out together at the weekend, describing Deveraux as her ‘date’. He was recently spotted wearing a Spider-man outfit backstage as his father performed with the Stones in Hyde Park, London.

Deveraux is one of Jagger’s eight children by five different women. The eldest, Jade, is 45 years older than Deveraux and already a grandmother, which makes him a great-uncle

Mirren’s mirroring the soft furnishings

She’s one of our best-known faces, but Dame Helen Mirren is lost amid the home furnishings in her latest outfit.

The Oscar winner, 76, wore a long, blue and white, majolica-print chiffon dress designed by Dolce & Gabbana, which costs £3,650.

However, she blended in with the curtains, sofa and lampshades at the Piazza Duomo in Sicily, where she was celebrating the tenth anniversary of the Italian fashion house’s haute couture line, Alta Moda.

One of Princess Diana’s favourite designers, Bruce Oldfield, has revealed what he thinks is the secret to looking elegant in a woman’s later years.

‘A good bra is the key to dressing well as one ages,’ says the couturier, 71. ‘It’s posture, standing up straight. As women age, the gap narrows between the bust and the waist. Thirty years ago it would have been distasteful to mention a client’s underwear. But these days older, well-heeled women want to look better.

‘They know something can be done and are amenable to straight talking.’
