Eight officers have been suspended by Greater Manchester Police (GMP) following a report of alleged racial discrimination.
GMP said it had also restricted the activities of another officer and referred the matter to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
The suspensions are not linked to the incident at Manchester Airport, where a GMP officer was suspended after a video emerged online showing a man allegedly being kicked and punched in the head.
Seven of the suspended officers are from the Bury district, and one, originally from Rochdale, was working in Bury at the time of the allegations.
Police said they had temporarily relocated officers to Bury to cover operational duties and minimise disruption in the district.
GMP has also made it mandatory to report both cases to the IOPC. The IOPC is investigating the first report and has reviewed and referred the second incident to GMP for investigation.
Mike Allen, GMP’s head of professional standards, said: “The reports we have received are deeply concerning and I hope to reassure the Bury community, the general public and GMP staff that a full and thorough investigation is underway into these matters.”
