Elden Ring Player Discovers Easy Way to Reach Three Fingers

Elden Ring’s Subterranean Shunning-Grounds presents a labyrinth to traverse, but one player offers a neat trick for descending its lower atrium.

Now that most players have completed Elden Ring on their own terms and at their own speeds, the topic of conversation has moved toward how quickly they can maneuver within the Lands Between and how many secrets are still hidden almost two months after launch. FromSoftware’s community, for example, is now full of shared experiences and anecdotal tactics.

In particular, Elden Ring‘s controversial speedruns have shown how many sequence-breaks and unintended tricks there are to be found. Like Dark Souls and other FromSoftware titles before it, Elden Ring contains obscure endings apart from the standard conclusion, with conditions players need to meet that are not made explicit. Perhaps the most unintuitive to seek out is the path of the Lord of Frenzied Flame, which tasks players to descend multiple labyrinth networks and perilous pitfalls in order to reach the Three Fingers.

Redditor u / xenon –_ affords stumped players an easier strategy for their descent to the Three Fingers. In one of the lowest sections of Elden Ring‘s Subterranean Shunning-Grounds, beneath Leyndell, Royal Capital, players will come across a tall and precarious atrium that they must descend into a particular manner. However, this player instead shows how a critical riposte animation can be used on an initially nonantagonistic enemy in the environment to fall the entire length of the atrium without taking damage, and also send them through the breakaway floor in the process.

In an ordinary playthrough of Elden Ring without any hints or tips, players would normally approach this area with awkward platforming as players drop to tombstones that jut out flatly from each wall. If players were to miss a tombstone or fall directly to the floor further below, the result is instant death. Players must first descend to the lowest tombstone, and from there they can safely drop onto the floor below and cause it to crumble and reveal the door to the Three Fingers.

Thankfully, this player’s helpful tip aims to skip this awkward descent and save players time on their way down. Their technique seems tricky at first in terms of correct placement and position, but it would be helpful nonetheless if players are able to execute it properly. This same technique can be seen used in several speedruns at Miquella’s Haligtree in Elden Ringwhich may also be difficult for players to locate without the assistance of a community or other players.

Indeed, Elden Ring‘s Frenzied Flame is remarked upon by a couple of NPCs such as Melina and Yura, but the path to its ending is not one that many players may know about on a first playthrough. Nonetheless, new tips and tricks such as this user’s critical riposte skip are sure to help players who find themselves in new areas and wish to traverse them with relative ease.

Elden Ring is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
