London Road remains at the center of a murder investigation after police and paramedics were called at around 5.50pm on Saturday, April 16 after reports of an assault at an internet café. The 18-year-old victim was taken to the Royal Liverpool Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
On that afternoon, a large police cordon was in place surrounding the square as over a dozen police cars and vans were seen parked nearby. Forensics officers were pictured working within the cordon, taking photographs.

Several police officers and forensics were also seen nearby outside the Royal Liverpool University Hospital, which was still open to the public contrary to rumors. The London Road cordon remained in place on Sunday and Monday as the investigation continued.
Floral tributes were seen left at the corner of the cordon on Monument Place as passers-by spoke about the “devastating” news.
One arrest has been made so far as police continue to appeal for anyone with any information to come forward after a car was seen being driven erratically near the city center location. A 34-year-old woman from Fazakerley was arrested on Monday on suspicion of assisting an offender.
She is currently in custody where she is being questioned by detectives. Officers are keen to speak to people who were seen standing at a bus stop on London Road and walking past TJ Hughes at the time of the incident, who may have witnessed what happened.
The investigation remains in the early stages as police urge anyone who heard anything suspicious or may have captured anything significant on their mobile phone, dashcam or CCTV to contact them urgently. The 18-year-old victim’s name has not been shared by police, but officers confirmed the family were devastated by the tragedy and are currently being supported by specialist family liaison officers.
Detective Chief Inspector Terry Davies, who is leading the murder investigation, said: “Although we have made an arrest our inquiries are still ongoing. This incident happened in a busy area of Liverpool City Center on Saturday evening.
“We know there were a number of people standing at bus stops on London Road, walking past TJ Hughes or driving along London Road who may have witnessed this incident or a vehicle driving erratically at that time. I am keen to appeal to those people to come forward so we can speak to them. Similarly anybody who may have mobile phone footage or dash cam footage then please come forward. “
