Callous Jordan Cattell attacked the toddler, leaving him with multiple skull fractures, bleeding and bruising, at his ex-partner’s home in Walsall on June 17, 2018.
The 25-year-old has now been jailed for 14 years after being found guilty of assault and battery at his trial last month.
Wolverhampton Crown Court heard how the baby was taken to Walsall Manor Hospital and then to Birmingham Children’s Hospital, where the extent of his injuries became clear.
The 10-month-old baby survived his injuries but will need full-time care for the rest of his life due to his disability.
When questioned by police, Cattell claimed the baby had fallen, creating a story to try to cover up his shocking actions.
He later admitted hitting the baby on the first day of the trial, but denied causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
Cattell of Selbourne Road, Handsworth was found guilty at an earlier hearing at Wolverhampton Crown Court and sentenced at the same court on July 12.
Detective Constable Lucy Simpson from our Public Protection Unit said: “This is a heartbreaking case, particularly as it has had a lasting effect on the victim, at the time an innocent little baby.
“The injuries sustained impacted the victim’s life, resulting in lifelong disabilities.
“It took years of hard work to bring this case to trial and I am pleased that Cattell has been put behind bars for a meaningful period of time.”
Wolverhampton Crown Court was also informed of his criminal record.
Prosecutor Amjad Malik KC said: “In March 2015, he went to a man’s house with his father and attacked him with a knife and a hammer. However, it appears that his father is the villain in this case. He was sentenced to 40 months in prison for assault and battery and aggravated assault.”
On March 24, 2020, Cattell and an accomplice entered the Lifestyle Express store in Brownhills with a shotgun and attempted to rob the store owner.
However, the brave shopkeeper grabbed the gun and chased the couple out of his premises with a cricket bat.
Cattell, of Shelbourne Avenue, Handsworth, and previously of Brownhills, was sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear and possessing a shotgun. He also pleaded guilty to possessing a handgun and possessing shotgun cartridges.
The court heard that Cattell was released from that sentence last year.
