Family matriarch Ethel Kennedy hospitalized after stroke

Ethel Kennedy, the 96-year-old matriarch of the Kennedy family, was hospitalized after suffering a stroke, her grandson Joe Kennedy III wrote on X Tuesday evening.

Kennedy, the widow of Robert F. Kennedy Sr., who was assassinated in 1968 while running for president, had a stroke while sleeping Oct. 3 and has been hospitalized since then, her little one said -son in the message.

His brother-in-law, President John F. Kennedy, was assassinated in 1963.

Kennedy is the oldest living member of the Kennedy family. After her husband’s assassination, she founded the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights.

She received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from then-President Barack Obama in 2014 for her work promoting social justice.
