Fast food worker charged with murder at Southwest Side restaurant, double murder

Authorities have charged a fast food worker with fatally shooting two men at a J&J Fish and Chicken restaurant following an argument Monday evening on the city’s southwest side.

Medhi Medellel, 42, of South Shore, faces two counts of first-degree murder, according to Chicago police.

Officers arrested Medellel about a half-hour after authorities said he fled from the Ashburn restaurant in the 7800 block of South Western Avenue, where he allegedly shot two men, ages 55 and 56. years.

The youngest was hit in the face and the oldest in the head, police said. Both men were pronounced dead at the restaurant. The Cook County medical examiner’s office has not released the identities of either victim.

Medellel is scheduled to appear Wednesday for a detention hearing at the Leighton Criminal Court building.
