From hockey to self-help, middle-schoolers are energized at LA’s Girl’s Empowerment Day – Pasadena Star News

In celebration of International Women’s Day, the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles joined Ready, Set, Gold !, Los Angeles Unified Local District East and Angel City Football Club to present a Girl’s Empowerment Day celebration at Banc of California Stadium in LA’s Exposition Park on Tuesday , March 8.

More than 1,300 middle school girls participated in sports activities and attended panels focusing on opportunities for women.

Panelists included health experts, Olympians, Paralympians, Angel City FC players and many others.

Among the hands-on events:

  • The LA Kings offered a ball hockey scrimmage;
  • The LA Sparks put on a basketball clinic; spirit
  • Cedars-Sinai Medical Center led a workshop on mindfulness and meditation.

“The YMCA is committed to girls sports from programs during the pandemic to girls golf,” said Erica Snyder, YMCA Regional Programs Director. “This is great for self-esteem, from seeing other girls their age and getting a sense of community.
