General Motors is recalling 21,469 electric SUVs because the vehicle’s anti-lock braking system (ABS) can activate unexpectedly, increasing the risk of a crash, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Tuesday.
The recall affects GM’s 2023-2024 Cadillac Lyriq all-wheel-drive models, the auto safety regulator said. GM plans to address the issue with an over-the-air update or through a dealer, free of charge, NHTSA added.
NHTSA has opened a preliminary investigation into more than 3,000 Cadillac Lyriq electric vehicles over complaints related to the loss of brake assist. ABS prevents wheels from locking and skidding when the brakes are applied, reducing the risk of a crash.
The automaker plans to send notification letters to vehicle owners on September 23, 2024.
