Texas authorities discovered drugs in stuffed animals representing an iconic and beloved mascot of the Lonestar State during a routine traffic stop.
The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that a deputy found marijuana and ecstasy inside Buc-ee’s Beaver stuffed animals just after 1 a.m. on July 31 while searching the interior of the vehicle.
Authorities said the driver gave the deputy consent to search the vehicle.
During the search, authorities said the officer detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and located the Buc-ee’s stuffed animals in the back seat.

After examining the toys, the officer discovered packages inside and found that the stuffed animals had been sewn back together. The stuffed beavers contained packages of marijuana and ecstasy, authorities said.
Authorities said the marijuana weighed more than two pounds.

In Texas, possession of between 4 oz and 5 lb of marijuana is a felony, punishable by imprisonment for 180 days to 2 years and a fine of up to $10,000.

After the drugs were found, the driver, identified as Lugene Davis Jr., 47, of San Antonio, reported experiencing chest pains.

Authorities said emergency services were dispatched to the scene and Davis was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Marijuana and ecstasy were seized and an arrest warrant was issued for Davis.
