Vice President Kamala Harris fired back at comments from Republican Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders that Harris “has nothing to keep her humble” because she doesn’t have children.

“I don’t think she understands that there are a lot of women here who, among them, don’t aspire to be humble,” Harris, the Democratic presidential candidate, told the podcast host. Call Her Daddy” Alex Cooper.

“Secondly,” she added in the recorded interview broadcast Sunday, there are “a lot of women here who have a lot of love in their lives and family in their lives and children in their lives, and I think it’s really important that women help each other.”

“We have our blood family, and then we have our love family. And I have both,” Harris, who is stepmother to husband Doug Emhoff’s two children, told Cooper, adding, “And I consider that a real blessing.”

Harris discussed her relationship with her stepchildren, Cole and Ella Emhoff, who are her husband’s biological children from his first marriage.

“They are my children. And I love these kids to death, and family comes in many forms,” Harris said.

Last month, Huckabee Sanders, who served in former President Donald Trump’s administration, told attendees at a town hall: “My children keep me humble. Unfortunately, Kamala Harris doesn’t have anything that keeps her humble. “

A spokesperson for Huckabee Sanders’ office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio, Trump’s running mate, has criticized women on a similar basis, saying in 2021 that Democrats who don’t have biological children are “a bunch of childless cat ladies who are unhappy facing to their own lives and the choices they make. they did and they also want to make the rest of the country unhappy.”

When asked what message Vance’s comments send to women who cannot conceive or have children naturally, Harris called them “mean and petty.”

“I think most Americans want leaders who understand that the measure of their strength is not how strong they beat. The true measure of a leader’s strength is how strong they are,” he said. she added.

Cooper also asked Harris about Trump’s comments last month at a rally in Indiana, Pennsylvania, where he said that under a future Trump administration, “you will no longer be abandoned, alone or afraid.” You will no longer be in danger. you will no longer be in danger. You will no longer be anxious because of all the problems today, you will be protected and I will be your protector.

Trump added: “Women will be happy, healthy, confident and free.”

Harris blasted Trump, blaming him for appointing three Supreme Court justices who voted to overturn Roe v. Wade.

“They did exactly what he planned,” Harris said, adding that “there are now 20 states where Trump bans abortion, including bans that make no exceptions for rape or incest …which means you’re talking to a survivor of a crime.” if their body is violated, they do not have the right to make a decision about what happens to their body next.

The newly revealed court filing claims the former president is not entitled to immunity from prosecution.

“Is this the same guy saying that now?” Harris asked, referring to Trump’s comments about protecting women. “Is this the same guy who said women should be punished for having abortions? This is the same guy who uses the same kind of language he uses to describe women? So yeah, there you go.”

A Trump campaign spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
