Harry Potter Stars Reunite in HBO Max Return to Hogwarts Teaser

HBO Max’s Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts reunites Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint.

Harry Potter stars Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint will reunite with director Chris Columbus for HBO Max’s Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts.

The special celebrates 20 years of the film franchise based on the book series from J.K. Rowling, with new interviews, conversations and more. After airing on HBO Max on Jan. 1, 2022, the special will also arrive on TBS and Cartoon Network in the spring ahead of the theatrical release of Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore.

“It has been an incredible journey since the debut of the Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone film, and witnessing how it has evolved into this remarkable interconnected universe has been magical to say the least,” Warner Bros. Global Kids, Young Adults and Classics President Tom Ascheim said. “This retrospective is a tribute to everyone whose lives were touched by this cultural phenomenon—from the talented cast and crew who poured their heart and soul into this extraordinary film franchise to the passionate fans who continue to keep the Wizarding World spirit alive 20 years later.”

“There’s magic in the air here with this incredible cast, as they all return home to the original sets of Hogwarts, where they began 20 years ago,” executive producer Casey Patterson added. “The excitement is palpable as they prepare to take their fans on a very special and personal journey, through the making of these incredible films.”

Other Harry Potter stars who’ll appear in the special include Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane, Ralph Fiennes, Jason Isaacs, Gary Oldman, Imelda Staunton, Tom Felton, James Phelps, Oliver Phelps, Mark Williams, Bonnie Wright, Alfred Enoch, Matthew Lewis, Evanna Lynch and Ian Hart.

Based on the novels written by Rowling, the Harry Potter film franchise kicked off in 2001 with The Sorcerer’s Stone and was followed by The Chamber of Secrets in 2002, The Prisoner of Azkaban in 2004, The Goblet of Fire in 2005, The Order of the Phoenix in 2007, The Half-Blood Prince in 2009, The Deathly Hallows – Part 1 in 2010 and The Deathly Hallows – Parth 2 in 2011. Following the mainline series, the franchise branched out into spinoff territory with the prequel film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them in 2016. That was followed by The Crimes of Grindelwald in 2018, and in addition to the aforementioned Secrets of Dumbledore, there are expected to be two more Fantastic Beasts films.
