Mass brawl breaks out on hiking trail in Peak District

A huge fight has broken out in the middle of a hiking trail in a popular tourist spot in the Peak District.

Emotions ran high at the Dovedale Stepping Stones in the Derbyshire park on Saturday after walkers argued in front of children.

The fight is said to have broken out after a man tried to cross the Stepping Stones with a pushchair, MailOnline reports.

Video shows dozens of walkers of all ages gathering on the river bank near Victorian stepping stones when a fight suddenly breaks out near the water, with at least one hiker seen brandishing a large stick.

Spectators, including children, watched the fight begin.

A 25-year-old man, who did not give his name, told the outlet: “

We were at the Stepping Stones and there was a guy trying to cross them.

“There was a guy with a stroller who wanted to cross and all of a sudden it all started.

“They yelled at each other for a while before they started fighting, then they started picking up sticks.

“There were families there and children watching.”

Derbyshire Police have been contacted for comment.

The dog-friendly trail from Ilam Park to Stepping Stones, through the beautiful Peak District, is popular with walkers of all abilities.

As well as the staircases built in the late 19th century, the Thorpe Cloud area is home to 1,000-year-old Saxon crosses and wildlife.

The National Trust has warned that popular locations can become “extremely busy” at weekends and bank holidays, with car parks filling up as early as 9am.
