A couple of business partners who opened a store that sold new books during the pandemic have just opened another store – selling used books.
Pam Horrocks and Keith Britten said the new Holt Book Gallery was designed to look like something that could be found in Mayfair – only without the high prices.
Ms Horrocks said: “We became more and more aware of the need for a second-hand bookstore in the city due to numerous inquiries in the existing store about good quality books.
“We were also aware that after the pandemic, there were customers who hesitated to handle used items and ventured into bookstores that in their eyes were ‘dusty and dirty’.
“We have created a beautiful, bright and airy space that celebrates the book in all its forms and incarnations.”
The store is located next to the Holt Bookshop, which Mrs. Horrocks and Mr. Britten opened in August 2020 in Lion House Court, off the city’s High Street.
This store had previously been operated by David Makinson in Holt’s Appleyard, and Mrs. Horrocks and Mr. Britten took over the name and the new location after Mr. Makinson retired.
Holt Book Gallery is open 10.00 to 16.00 Wednesday to Saturday, closed 13.00-13.30 for lunch.
