After a seasonal day Friday, temperatures and humid conditions are expected to rise throughout the weekend and beyond, sending heat index values near 105 degrees.
According to meteorologist Iisha Scott of NBC 5’s Storm Team, the region will see high temperatures climb to over 80 degrees, marking a substantial increase from Friday afternoon’s mid-80s.
While the same pattern is expected for the next few days, multiple chances of showers and thunderstorms are possible before that happens. Isolated showers or thunderstorms could occur late Saturday afternoon and early evening, Scott said.
The best chance of rain, however, will be seen Saturday night into Sunday morning, until around 7 a.m. After that, we’ll be clear of precipitation, although the heat could put a damper on your outdoor plans.
Although Monday is expected to be the hottest day, the National Weather Service, in a social media post, urged people to take necessary precautions a few days in advance.
“Given the relative lack of warmth and humidity in our region in July and August, particularly recently, we will be less acclimated to these conditions than we normally would be in late August,” the NWS said on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.
On Monday, the first day of school for Chicago Public Schools students, temperatures are expected to reach 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32 degrees Celsius) and heat indices to range from 100 to 110 degrees Fahrenheit (38 to 43 degrees Celsius), forecasters said. Similar conditions will persist Tuesday, with highs rising slightly to 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32 degrees Celsius) and heat indices remaining above 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38 degrees Celsius).
A welcome change won’t come until Wednesday, when temperatures drop to around 80 degrees.
