Some House lawmakers are “frustrated” by changes to the investigation into the attempted assassination of former President Trump, Rep. Lisa McClain told Fox News Digital.
McClain, who serves on several committees, including Oversight and Accountability and Armed Services, said Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas had taken over the investigation, raising concerns among lawmakers.
The U.S. Secret Service, which is investigating the shooting, is part of Homeland Security.
“They’re very frustrated, which is probably an understatement,” McClain said at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. “There was an assassination attempt on the leading candidate. We’re not getting a lot of answers. We’re not being transparent. It’s being passed from the Secret Service to Homeland Security. Why?”

Another concern is Mayorkas’ involvement in the investigation, McClain said, given the opposition of many Republicans to him over his handling of the southern border.
“This gentleman who says that the border is safe while millions of illegal immigrants are pouring in,” she said, “does not give us much hope. We are not very optimistic.”
FORMER SECRET SERVICE AGENT SAYS TRUMP’S ASSASSIN THOMAS CROOKS SCOUTED RALLY LOCATION IN ADVANCE
The U.S. Secret Service has been under heavy scrutiny since the gunman shot Trump from outside the security perimeter, with the agency and local authorities blaming each other for the security breach.
“At this particular site, we have divided areas of responsibility, but the Secret Service is fully responsible for the design, implementation and execution of the site,” Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle said in an interview with CNN.
McClain said the director must take responsibility for what happened.

“The Secret Service needs to take this seriously and say, ‘Hey, I’m in charge of this. This is my department. I’m the boss. I’m in charge. I’m going to investigate this,'” McClain said. “We need to take this seriously and get to the bottom of this.”
