Simone Biles led the veteran U.S. team to a gold medal Tuesday, adding another medal to one of the most decorated resumes in Olympic history while setting records along the way.

The gold medal won by the U.S. team on Tuesday was the eighth Olympic medal of Biles’ career, as well as her fifth gold. While the 27-year-old gymnast still has competition at the Paris Games, many are wondering how long one of the greatest gymnasts of all time has been competing in the Olympics.

After competing this weekend, Biles officially made her third Olympic debut, having first appeared at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games at age 19.

Biles took the world by storm in Brazil in her Olympic debut, winning four of five gold medals in a historic performance.

In addition to a team gold medal, Biles won gold medals in vault, all-around and floor exercise, while also winning a bronze medal on balance beam.

Biles returned to Olympic competition in the summer of 2021 for the Tokyo 2020 Games, from which she withdrew due to difficulties with “twisties,” a phenomenon in which a gymnast suddenly loses awareness of where her body is in space.

Despite her withdrawal, Biles still won a bronze medal on balance beam and a silver medal as part of her home country’s efforts in the team competition.

Biles won her eighth medal at her third Olympics on Tuesday in Paris, taking home a gold in the team competition.

Biles and teammate Suni Lee are expected to return on August 1 to compete in the women’s all-around final.

The events will air live on NBC 5 and then replay in prime time. They will also be streamed on Peacock.
