While the major league Red Sox put on a show at Fenway Park on Saturday, three of the organization’s best minor league players showcased their talents in Texas.

Roman Anthony, Marcelo Mayer and Kyle Teel, who are currently ranked No. 14, No. 7 and No. 24 prospects by MLB.com, respectively, participated in the league’s Futures Games festivities. Anthony participated in the Futures Game Skills Showcase while Mayer and Teel played in the Futures All-Star Game.

Both events took place at the Texas Rangers’ home stadium in Arlington, Globe Life Field.

The first-of-its-kind Skills Showcase, which will be televised Sunday, featured eight players whose ultimate goal was to finish with the most runs by displaying the best bat control. Each hitter competed in eight rounds of specific hitting competitions, typically aimed at hitting the ball to a specific spot on the field.

Anthony, a 20-year-old outfielder, won the Skills Showcase with 66 points. He hit six home runs on eight swings during the home run portion of the contest, according to The Boston GlobeCurrent Double-A Portland Sea Dogs player Alex Speier wore a pair of Wally the Green Monster cleats for the event.

After the skills presentation, Anthony proudly donned his Sea Dogs cap while speaking to reporters at the podium.

“It’s great to represent the minor league team,” he said (h/t Speier).

Anthony was selected 79th overall by Boston in the 2022 MLB draft.

In the annual Futures All-Star Game, Kyle Teel, 22, was the only player on either team (American or National League) to have multiple hits. The Portland catcher had two doubles in as many at-bats. His first hit flew over the center fielder’s glove.

The Red Sox drafted Teel out of Virginia with the 14th pick in last year’s draft.

In Mayer’s case, the Sea Dogs shortstop finished 0-for-2 but threw a 104-mph groundout in his second at-bat.

Like teammates Anthony and Teel, Mayer, the 2021 No. 4 overall pick, has a chance to be promoted to Triple-A Worcester before the end of this season.
