Edwards was the BBC’s highest-paid news presenter when he resigned after being accused of paying a teenager thousands of pounds for sexually explicit photos.
Former BBC news presenter Huw Edwards has been charged with three counts of making indecent images of children, the Metropolitan Police have said.
Edwards, 62, resigned from the BBC in April after being accused of paying a teenager thousands of pounds for sexually explicit photos.
He was the BBC’s highest-paid news presenter and had worked for the corporation for 40 years at the time of his resignation.
Police said his alleged offences took place between December 2020 and April 2022 and relate to images shared in a WhatsApp chat.
The former TV news presenter was arrested on November 8, 2023 and charged on Wednesday, June 26.
He will appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, July 31.
It comes after Edwards was paid between £475,000 and £479,999 in the 2023-24 financial year, making him the broadcaster’s third highest-paid presenter overall.
