In Luigi Mangione’s apartment in Honolulu

In the months before the high-profile murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in New York, accused killer Luigi Mangione was living halfway around the world — in a high-rise apartment in Honolulu, Hawaii, learned The Post.

The nearly 1,000-square-foot corner unit at 801 South St. features two bedrooms, two bathrooms and stunning views stretching to the surrounding mountains. It’s unclear how much he paid monthly, although several listing portals, such as Zillow and Redfin, estimate he rented for around $4,000 a month.

Built in 2017, records show the unit is owned by Peter and Nam Joun, who purchased it for $745,500 in 2021.

The apartment’s rental transactions were handled by a property management company, and a source close to the Joun family told the Post she was unaware Mangione was their tenant.

Peter Joun, the source said, is in Japan and has not commented on the matter.

It’s unclear whether Mangione, who records show moved into the apartment in February, had a roommate or lived alone.

Several representatives of the management company, Marcus Realty, did not respond to The Post’s requests for comment. The Honolulu Police Department did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.

Prior to this address, Mangione had rented a room at Surfbreak, a co-living space in Honolulu where he paid $2,000 a month.

His former owner at Surfbreak told the Post that Mangione constantly suffered from a pinched nerve and a “misaligned spine” following a surfing accident in the Aloha State.

Described as optimistic and accomplished by a former owner, Mangione had a promising background as a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania – UPenn being an Ivy League school – and an engineer. He was also valedictorian of his high school in Maryland.

Investigators are now looking into Mangione’s movements and state of mind that led to the killing.

Mangione was arrested at a McDonald’s on East Plank Road in Altoona, Pennsylvania on December 9. He was found with a manifesto accusing health insurance companies of corporate greed.

Mangione’s apparent anger toward the industry is fueling speculation about the motives for the CEO’s death.
