According to auction house Propstore, 37 bids were placed for the iconic hat won by Harrison Ford, who played intrepid archaeologist Dr. Henry Walton “Indiana” Jones, Jr.

Released in 1984, the Steven Spielberg-directed film was nominated for two Academy Awards and grossed $333,107,271 worldwide. The hat was worn by Ford or his stunt double, American stuntman Dean Ferrandini, in several of the film’s most memorable scenes, the auction house said, including the yellow raft on the snowy mountain, as well as in the river scene.

Ferrandini, who worked on more than 100 films and series during his career, died last year. The hat came from his collection, the BBC reported.

The hat was created by the Herbert Johnson Hat Company of London and was placed on Jones’ head as he traveled from London to Sri Lanka and then to the United States, where the film was shot. The hatband is stamped with the initials “IJ” in gold, a feature applied specifically to hats made for the original three Indiana Jones films, the auction house said.

Made of sable-colored rabbit felt, the fedora featured a dark brown ribbon and leather hatband and incorporated a more tapered crown than the previous film.

Another “Temple of Doom” fedora sold at auction in 2021 sold for just over $431,000, including buyer’s premium, according to the auction house.
