An angry motorist who, in a moment of road rage, rushed out of his car to confront the driver of a van, was knocked to the ground by his taller opponent.

The fight was caught on dashcam after the two men began fighting each other in broad daylight after meeting at a motorway roundabout.

The video was captured by HGV driver Darrren Waite, who was forced to act as peacemaker as warring drivers threatened to let their anger get the better of them on the M58 slip road near Wigan on July 5.

Dash cam footage of the 50-year-old taken a fortnight ago shows a white van appearing to choose the wrong lane on a roundabout before changing to avoid joining the motorway.

A white car jostles for position until it swerves dramatically and appears to “smash” the van, sending both vehicles crashing into a grass verge.

The incident began after the van appeared to choose the wrong lane at the roundabout, before crossing paths as they merged into the same lane as the car. The car then swerved sharply in front of the van, forcing them both onto the grass verge.
The driver of the car then gets out of his vehicle and shouts at the driver of the van through his window.

The driver of the car sees a “red haze” and begins “punching” through the driver’s window of the van, prompting him to get out and the two men begin fighting on the road.

The large van driver quickly hits his opponent with three punches before grabbing him by the legs and kicking him.

He only stops once Darren jumps out of his truck to separate the two men and tell them to exchange information, which he says they never did.

Instead, the driver of the car can be seen delivering one final punch through the van’s window before it drives off and appears to run a red light.

Dad-of-five Darren, who was dropping off a lorry at his depot, admitted he “just wanted to get home” after a week’s work and “couldn’t be bothered” to be stuck behind the fight.

He said a nine or ten-year-old child, who he believes to be the son of the driver of the car, was even crying in the passenger seat during the fight.

Facebook users sided with the van driver, who appeared to have won the fight, and blasted the sedan driver as a “total idiot” for pushing him off the road.

They joked that “the guy who started it didn’t finish it” and another said that “Red Mist has a lot to answer for.”

The driver of the van then opens his door and confronts the other motorist after being arrested.
The couple then walk towards each other while continuing to exchange words about the incident.
The couple then swing towards each other as traffic continues to pass them on the roundabout.
The taller man then forces the driver of the car to the ground as the fight continues.
He then grabs the car driver’s legs and pulls them into the air.
The fight was broken up when truck driver Darrren Waite came out of his cab to stop the couple.

Darren, from Wigan, Greater Manchester, said: “It was shocking to see this because you see this stuff online but you never expect to be right behind it.

“I thought the van had come close to the car, but when I looked at the video you can see the car swerving quite violently.

“The guy in the car rushed straight at the driver of the van and started throwing punches through the window.

“The driver of the van got out, they started fighting and ended up turning around.

“I work all week and I just wanted to get home. I couldn’t afford to be stuck behind those two, so I went out to separate them.

“The man in the car was a bit shocked at his size. The van driver definitely won.

“The guy in the white car had his son in the car and he was about nine or ten years old and he was crying.

“It could have ended worse and someone could have been knocked down.”

Darren says he did not report the incident to police and did not hear from the motorists after giving his number at the scene.

A friend of Darren’s posted the video on Facebook on Friday, July 12, and it has since garnered more than 160 reactions and 40 comments.

Someone commented: “The guy who started it didn’t finish it.”

A second said: “Red Fog has a lot to be ashamed of.”

A third wrote: “What was the guy in pink playing at? He literally caused the accident and got beaten up for acting like a tough guy.”

A fourth added: “I’m sorry to sound stupid here, but ANYONE who ran me off the road like that, for a simple lane change mistake, I would have kicked their ass.

“You can’t hit someone on the road and expect not to get beaten up. It’s as simple as that.”

A fifth simply said: “The driver of the car seems like a real idiot.”
