Donald Trump’s running mate JD Vance has suggested how his administration might seek to end Russia’s war in Ukraine if he wins the White House.

Vance said any possible peace talks involving Trump could involve a “heavily fortified” demilitarized zone on the two countries’ borders.

“I think it looks like Trump sitting down and saying to the Russians, the Ukrainians and the Europeans: You have to find a solution. What does a peaceful settlement look like? And it probably looks like the current dividing line between Russia and Ukraine, which is becoming a kind of demilitarized zone,” he told the daily. Shawn Ryan Show podcast released Wednesday.

Putin’s Russia has taken military control of about 20% of Ukraine since 2014, when it annexed Crimea.

The prospect of peace negotiations has been raised repeatedly, without success, since the Russian leader launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
