Jets Mailbag: Davante Adams Trade Chances; How hot is Robert Saleh’s seat?

There’s never a dull moment with the Jets.

After their 10-9 loss to the Broncos last Sunday, the Jets have been in the news for a variety of reasons this week. Part of it is speculation that the Jets could acquire wide receiver Davante Adams in a trade after asking the Raiders to trade him.

Jets coach Robert Saleh also declined to discuss Garrett Wilson’s comments about changing his route tree this season. Nevertheless, the Jets (2-2) have an important match this Sunday against the Vikings (4-0) in London.

Before that, let’s answer a few questions in this week’s mail.

What do you think the chances are that the Jets trade for Davante Adams? – @nyjetsfanmike

I won’t put a percentage on it, but I think the chances are pretty high that the Jets acquire Adams. He would like to be traded to the Jets, and I know the Jets are interested in him.

A year ago, even after Aaron Rodgers suffered his season-ending Achilles injury, the Jets inquired about Adams’ availability with the Raiders. However, Las Vegas told the team it would not move the three-time All-Pro.

Today the situation has changed. It doesn’t appear Raiders coach Antonio Pierce and Adams are on the same page, especially after Pierce reportedly liked a message that the receiver might have already played his last snap with the Raiders.

In addition to the Jets, the Saints are also high on Adams’ trade wish list because of his relationship with Derek Carr, with whom he played at Fresno State, and with the Raiders in 2022. The Bills don’t have no salary cap space. currently, but you’d have to think they’d love nothing more than to keep Adams away from Rodgers and the Jets.

Nothing is imminent as Adams is currently dealing with a legitimate hamstring injury. Depending on how long this situation lasts, it could stall any potential Adams trade for a week or more.

Is Saleh fired during the season if the Jets’ record is 2-5? – @JETSFAN139

Whatever happens in October, I highly doubt Saleh will be fired mid-season. First, Jets owner Woody Johnson doesn’t make a habit of firing coaches during the season.

In 2020, the Jets went 2-14 and Johnson waited hours after the team’s season finale to fire then-coach Adam Gase. Plus, I don’t know if firing Saleh would do anything.

The Jets offense has been inconsistent through four games, and firing Saleh wouldn’t change that because Rodgers would still be the quarterback and Nathaniel Hackett would still run the offense. Many fans clamored for Saleh’s job after the embarrassing loss to the Broncos, but I wouldn’t hold my breath even if the Jets were 0-5 in October.

What is your number one problem that MUST be solved ASAP? — @bingusbungus_2

I think there are several issues the Jets need to change right now, but running block is the highest on my list. Coming into the season, the Jets thought their rushing attack would be a strength, but that certainly hasn’t been the case thus far.

Currently, the Jets rank 27th in rushing (91.5 per game). Breece Hall doesn’t look like the man some expected to be among the league leaders in rushing yardage. Part of that has to do with how the Jets have – or haven’t – blocked in the trenches.

If Hall, rookie Braelon Allen and the Jets’ running game can get going, it could unlock a lot in their passing game. It would also take a lot of pressure off Rodgers and a passing game that is still trying to find chemistry.

So how hot is Nathaniel Hackett’s seat right now, and do you think the Jets should part ways with him? If so, when could this happen? – @MrEd315

Jets fans have been clamoring for Hackett’s job since last season. But if Rodgers wants Hackett to be with the Jets, he’s not going anywhere. I will say that the Jets’ play needs to be better, especially during critical periods.

You can’t run a fade pass play to Solomon Thomas when you’re on the one yard line. Also, why not use Allen, a powerful running back who likes to run north and south to get a touchdown?

Fans hoping for a change in offensive coordinator will just have to hope that the Jets offense improves throughout the season.
