PALO ALTO — A burglar broke into a Palo Alto home Tuesday night and stole jewelry while the resident slept, police said.
Officers were called to a residence in the 400 block of Barron Avenue around 10:40 p.m. for a report of a burglary, the Palo Alto Police Department said in a news release.
The resident, a 90-year-old woman, slept through the burglary, police said, adding that she was awakened afterwards by a phone call from her alarm company inquiring about an alarm activation that occurred around 10:20 p.m.
The alarm company also notified the woman’s adult daughter, police said. The daughter, who lives nearby, arrived at her mother’s home and found the front door open. She called police.
The investigation revealed the burglar likely entered the home through an unlocked door and searched several rooms, police said. Jewelry was missing from the woman’s bedroom.
Police said there was no evidence linking the burglary to one that occurred July 27 at an occupied home in the 800 block of University Avenue.
