A BBC Sport journalist has sent a touching message to colleague John Hunt after his wife and two daughters were murdered on Tuesday night. Carol Hunt, 61, Louise, 25, and Hannah, 28, were killed in a crossbow attack at a house in Ashlyn Close, Bushey, Hertfordshire.
Kyle Clifford, 26, has been arrested on three counts of murder and is in serious condition in hospital after being found injured in a cemetery in Enfield on Wednesday.
As England prepare to face Spain in the Euro 2024 final at the Olympiastadion in Berlin tonight, former BBC Radio Merseyside commentator Gary Flintoff, who now works for BBC Radio Live, has sent a heartfelt message to his colleague.
Taking to X, formerly Twitter, he wrote: “This is a special day for the @5liveSport football team. However, our friend and colleague @HuntyCaller and his daughter Amy remain in our thoughts and hearts. John is a huge football fan and would have enjoyed this day. We send him and Amy all our love.”
The racing commentator and his daughter Amy released a statement on Saturday. They said they now needed space to process what had happened and “begin the grieving process”.
“The devastation we are experiencing cannot be expressed in words,” the statement read. “We want to thank people for their kind messages and for the support we have received over the past few days.
“These events have brought us great comfort and we are very grateful for them. As you can imagine, this is an extremely difficult time for us and we need time and space to accept what has happened and begin the grieving process.
“While all of this is happening, we ask that you respect our privacy and that of our family and relationships. Thank you.”
In a separate statement read to Sky Sports Racing viewers by colleague Matt Chapman, Mr Hunt paid tribute to his “beautifully inspiring” daughter Amy.
He said: “Despite the horrific evil that has swept through our lives, causing devastation on an unimaginable scale, the counterbalance to this has been the breathtaking messages of support, some of which have yet to be read.
“My oldest daughter Amy has been a great help and inspiration to me, and I try very hard to do the same for her. Every message has felt so meaningful, like a reassuring hug.”
