Kieran Trippier has emerged as a transfer target for Newcastle United, but the Atletico Madrid star prefers a switch to Manchester United if he is to return to the Premier League.

The Red Devils have long been linked with a move to the former Tottenham Hotspur man and saw an offer on him rejected over the summer.

Atletico boss Diego Simeone is a big fan of the English national team player and had no intentions of letting him go, but that has not stopped the clubs from showing interest in him.

Newly loaded Newcastle have added Trippier to their list of goals and want to make him part of their move up to the next level under new manager Eddie Howe.

Whether Trippier would be interested in a switch to a relegation match in the Premier League from the current La Liga champions is still unknown, but the Magpies would certainly offer him a huge financial package to do so.

Spanish publication AS reports that despite interest from Newcastle and the failed move from Manchester United earlier this year, the right-back hopes a move to Old Trafford can resurface.

Atletico are still keen to hold on to the 31-year-old, but with his contract expiring in 2023, they may well be tempted to cash in the interest from England next summer.

Trippier has played 12 La Liga matches for Atletico this season and started three matches in the Champions League as he remains a force in Simeone’s squad.

However, he is currently out injured with a left acromioclavicular subluxation, a shoulder injury that sees a partial separation of the collarbone from the joint.
