Police at scene of stabbing in Southport, children among injured

The three girls killed in yesterday’s tragic knife attack in Southport have been identified as Bebe King, six; Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven; and Alice Dasilva Aguiar, nine.

In tribute to Bebe, her devastated family said: “No words can describe the devastation that has befallen our family as they try to cope with the loss of our little girl Bebe.”

Meanwhile, Alice Dasilva Aguiar’s family paid tribute to her: “Keep smiling and dancing as you love to do, our princess, as we have already told you, you are still our princess and no one would change that. With all the love from your hero dad and mom.”

Eight other children were stabbed and five are in critical condition, alongside two adults who were seriously injured.

The tragedy took place at a sold-out Taylor Swift-themed dance workshop that quickly became “something like a horror movie,” witnesses to the stabbing said.

Armed police arrested a 17-year-old boy from Banks and seized a knife in connection with the stabbings, which are not believed to be terrorism-related. Merseyside Police said the motive was not yet clear and the teenager remained in custody.

Prime Minister extends personal thanks to first responders

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer shook hands with firefighters and ambulance staff during a visit to Southport police station and said he wanted to thank them personally.

He said, “I know you’re ready to face any situation that comes your way, you do it every day.

“But we shouldn’t pretend that what you experienced yesterday was ordinary or just a usual response. It was really, really difficult. I just wanted to say a personal thank you to each of you, that’s why I wanted to shake each of your hands, for what you did yesterday.

“I am incredibly proud of what you have done.

“I am amazed, but not surprised, that you are here today, continuing your duties.

“I really want you to focus on the fact that there are children alive today because of what you did yesterday. It’s incredible. It’s what you do every day, but it’s under the most difficult circumstances.

“I don’t want you to think for one minute that the rest of the country didn’t see this.”
