Elvis Presley’s granddaughter Riley Keough has revealed new details about her late mother Lisa Marie Presley’s memories of the rock icon’s death.

The “Lights Out” singer was Elvis’ only child, whom he welcomed with his wife Priscilla Presley in February 1968. Lisa Marie was residing with her father at his Graceland property at the time of his sudden death from a seizure heart disease at the age of 42. August 16, 1977.

Keough recently sat down for an interview with Oprah Winfrey and discussed Lisa Marie’s upcoming memoir, “From Here to the Great Unknown.” The “Daisy Jones & the Six” actress helped finish the book after her mother died unexpectedly in January 2023.

In a clip from the special, Keough, 35, explained that Lisa Marie had a strange feeling when she said goodnight to Elvis for the last time.

“The morning Elvis died, your mother woke up and instinctively knew something was wrong,” Winfrey told Keough at the start of the clip. “Want to tell us about it? She’s 9, and most of us remember when we were 9.”

“Yeah, definitely,” Keough replied. “I think this is the first time she talks about his death in detail in the book.

“She said goodnight to him, and I think she knew how to say ‘goodnight’ – like she had some kind of feeling.

“I think she had a feeling on several occasions that he wasn’t doing well,” Keough added. “She told me that sometimes she found him in her bathroom, looking a little lost or holding on to the railing to keep himself straight.

“And she used to write these letters when she was little – that’s what we did – kind of saying, ‘I hope my daddy doesn’t die,'” she said. told Winfrey as a handwritten letter written by a young Lisa Marie was on display.

The letter read: “I love my mom and dad and I hope you don’t die.”

“So there was kind of a feeling,” Keough said.

Winfrey noted that there seemed to be “a lot of chaos all the time” at Graceland.

“Certainly,” Keough agreed. “But upstairs, it was just her and her dad. I think she spent a lot of intimate time up there with him. No one else was up there.”

In another excerpt from the interview, the actress recalled that growing up, she saw how difficult it was for Lisa Marie to cope with Elvis’ death.

“She would sometimes be found sitting and listening to her father’s songs, reading and crying,” Winfrey said.

“Yes, I think her grief was a lot like this: I don’t think she knew how to handle it, and it was a very private thing for her,” Keough said. “She would listen to his music alone if she was drunk and cry.”

“Have you met her several times or more than once in this state?” » asked Winfrey.

“Yes,” Keough told the talk show host. “I walked into her room, and she had speakers on, because that was, you know, back then.

“And she was kind of sitting on the floor crying and she was listening to her dad’s music.”

This special marks Keough’s first major media interview since her mother’s death. Lisa Marie, who shared Keough and her son Benjamin with ex-husband Danny Keough, died of a bowel obstruction at the age of 54 on February 12, 2023.
