Little Trouble: Toddler Sneaks Into White House Gardens

A tiny intruder sneaked into the White House grounds on Tuesday, prompting a swift response from U.S. intelligence.

Anthony Guglielmi, the Secret Service’s communications chief, said a young child crawled through the fence on the north side of the White House, triggering security alerts.

“The Secret Service Uniformed Division today encountered a curious young visitor along the White House North Fence who briefly entered the White House grounds,” Gugliemli said. “White House security systems immediately activated Secret Service agents and the small child and his parents were quickly reunited.”

This is not the first time a toddler has slipped through the White House fence. A similar incident occurred in 2014, when a toddler slipped through the White House fence just before then-President Barack Obama was set to deliver a national address on Iraq. The breach led to a temporary lockdown and delayed the briefing.

“We were going to wait until he learned to talk to question him, but instead he was given a time-out and sent back to his parents,” said Edwin Donovan, then a spokesman for the U.S. Secret Service.
