The road is closed in both directions due to a police incident between the A628 Market Street (Gun Inn traffic lights) and Woolley Bridge Road. There is currently congestion on Market Street.
Several bus services have been diverted.

Bus service is back up and running in the area after the incident involving police. The road is now reopened.

Residents have posted messages on local Facebook groups urging people to avoid the area due to “traffic jams” on the roads.
One person wrote: “Ambulances have just left but the air ambulance is still here, it’s blocked, avoid the area.”
Another said: “It’s creating a backlog across the whole area, it took me an hour from Mottram to Hadfield.”

The latest update from the Inrix live traffic service states: “Traffic congestion due to a previous police incident on the A57 Brookfield Road in both directions from the A628 Market Street (Gun Inn traffic lights) to Woolley Bridge Road. All lanes have been reopened.”

Several eyewitnesses reported seeing an air ambulance in a field at Tara Brook Farm on Woolley Road.
The MEN has contacted the police for further information.

Inrix says: “The A57 Brookfield Road is blocked in both directions, traffic is blocked due to an incident with police from the A628 Market Street (Gun Inn traffic lights) to Woolley Bridge Road. Congestion on Market Street.”
