LIVE updates as Wythenshawe Forum evacuated after police ‘threaten’ at scene

The Forum Centre in Wythenshawe was evacuated this morning as police responded to “threats made” against the centre.

Police are currently on scene at the complex near Simonsway. People have reportedly been evacuated from inside the building.




A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police confirmed officers were at the scene. The threats were found to be a hoax.

In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: “Shortly before 9.30am today (Tuesday 16 July) we received a report that threats had been made against the Manchester Forum Centre. Officers attended and it does not appear that there was any real threat to the centre or the wider area and officers are treating the incident as a false threat.


“Enquiries are continuing. Anyone with information should call police on 101 quoting incident number 770 of 16/07/24 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

The Forum is still evacuated this morning.

There are reports that a number of people are waiting outside to try to get back into the building.

Full GMP statement: ‘Threats have been made’ against the Forum Centre

In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said:

“Shortly before 9.30am today (Tuesday 16 July) we received a report that threats had been made against the Forum Centre in Manchester.

“Officers attended and there does not appear to have been any real threat to the centre or the wider area, and officers are treating the incident as a false threat.

“Investigations remain ongoing.

“Anyone with information should call police on 101 quoting incident number 770 of 16/07/24 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

City councilor says ‘first concern is safety of residents’

Councillor Astrid Johnson, a Green who represents the Woodhouse Park ward which covers the affected area, said:

“Our first concern is the safety of residents.

“It has a huge impact on the staff and people at the Forum.”

Police respond to report of ‘malicious communications’

THE Manchester Evening News understands that police are responding to a report of “malicious communications.”

We are awaiting a full statement from law enforcement.

People were reportedly asked to leave the centre about an hour ago

The Forum was reportedly evacuated about an hour ago.

Some people were waiting outside during this time to be allowed to get in.
