England’s Euro 96 encounter with Spain was their last at a major tournament, but there have been more recent encounters.
Gareth Southgate has been in charge of three of those games, with mixed results.
The first match came just weeks into Southgate’s reign, when Spain came from 2-0 down to earn a friendly draw.
La Furia Roja won the next clash, a Nations League match at Wembley, with Saul and Rodrigo on goal in a 2-1 victory.
More recently, however, England won 3-2 in Seville in October 2018. Two goals from Raheem Sterling and one from Marcus Rashford gave the visitors a 3-0 lead, with Paco Alcacer and Sergio Ramos reducing the deficit but not quite enough.
