Liverpool vs Manchester United LIVE score and goal updates as Sadio Mane, Mo Salah and Luis Diaz score

Manchester United take on Liverpool at Anfield in the Premier League on Tuesday night.

United have won just four points from three games against Leicester, Everton and Norwich since their return from the international break. United just about managed to beat relegation-threatened Norwich 3-2 at Old Trafford at the weekend.

Norwich have scored the fewest goals in the Premier League this season but they managed to trouble United in the match.

Liverpool are expected to prove formidable opposition tonight. Jurgen Klopp’s side remain in contention to win an unprecedented quadruple and they beat Manchester City 3-2 in the FA Cup semi-final on Saturday afternoon.

In regards to team news, Luke Shaw, Raphael Varane, Fred and Edinson Cavani are sidelined with injury but Scott McTominay is on the bench. Cristiano Ronaldo is also unavailable for selection after the tragic passing of his baby boy.

United are showing some fight and desire here.

It’s well overdue.

CHANCE!

That was the biggest chance of the game for United.

Allison denies the Reds.

United counter-attack

United break with purpose but Elanga’s shot is blocked.

Liverpool have been passive

Liverpool have been happy to control possession in areas that will not hurt United.

They know they’ve basically got this fixture won.

Klopp is not content with Liverpool

Whisper it quietly, but United have been better since the interval.

Klopp isn’t happy on the touchline.

55 ‘- LIV 2-0 MUNSteven Railston

United have first shot

United have their first shot of the game.

Sancho’s effort is tame.

52 ‘- LIV 2-0 MUNSteven Railston

Wan-Bissaka at left-back

This is strange. United have moved to a back four after Jones’ substitution, but Wan-Bissaka is playing at left-back with Dalot at right-back. It would usually be the opposite way around.

48 ‘- LIV 2-0 MUNSteven Railston

The pattern remains

The game’s pattern remains, although that was never really in doubt.

And we’re away

Play has finally resumed.

HALF-TIME

That’s the whistle for the break. United are two goals down at Anfield and it’s no surprise, sadly.

This is unacceptable and all too familiar.

44 ‘- LIV 2-0 MUNSteven Railston

CHANCE!

Diaz shoots from distance but it’s easily gathered.

43 ‘- LIV 2-0 MUNSteven Railston

United have 22% possession

That’s embarrassing.

40 ‘- LIV 2-0 MUNSteven Railston

This is not acceptable

United are not doing the basics.

Their body language is a disgrace.

37 ‘- LIV 2-0 MUNSteven Railston

United might be happy with this

It sounds absolutely absurd, but considering the circumstances, United might be happy with only being two goals down at this stage. There was a depressing inevitability about this game ahead of kick-off.

34 ‘- LIV 2-0 MUNSteven Railston

Diaz has the ball in the net

Diaz scores but it’s offside.

United survive.

32 ‘- LIV 2-0 MUNSteven Railston

CHANCE!

De Gea just about manages to save Mane’s effort.

It would have been offside anyway.

30 ‘- LIV 2-0 MUNSteven Railston

Strong challenge from Maguire

Maguire puts in a strong challenge to stop Van Dijk from roaming forward.

27 ‘- LIV 2-0 MUNSteven Railston

CHANCE!

Alexander-Arnold fancied an effort from distance there with De Gea having cleared the ball outside of his box. The Spaniard peddled back just in time to close the window of opportunity.

25 ‘- LIV 2-0 MUNTyrone Marshall

Liverpool are just toying with United

That was an excellent Liverpool goal but throughout the build-up you just sensed they were toying with United. They’re doing what they want because they can do what they want. Fabinho can stroll forward 20 yards with the ball, Henderson and Thiago can move into space by jogging five yards. The full-backs have acres to play on. This has been a surrender from United. Pathetic.

23 ‘- LIV 2-0 MUNSamuel Luckhurst

This was far too predictable

This could be another 5-0. Fans on both sides would have been saying that before the game. It’s an exceptional team against an execrable one.

Rangnick has air of resignation about him in the technical area. This is going how many expected it would. This is the worst United side in decades against the best Liverpool side in decades.

21 ‘- LIV 2-0 MUNKEY EVENT

GOAL! 2-0 LIVERPOOL!

GOAL! 2-0 LIVERPOOL!

Salah makes it two.

18 ‘- LIV 1-0 MUNSteven Railston

Matic gives away cheap corner

That was really poor from Matic.

United have been grossly inferior here.

16 ‘- LIV 1-0 MUNSteven Railston

United under pressure

Liverpool are probing United.

Conceding so early has ruined United’s night already.

14 ‘- LIV 1-0 MUNSteven Railston

Elanga isolated on the left

Elanga found himself with the ball but with two Liverpool players around him.

He panicked and lost possession – this could be a long night.
