New York police have charged Luigi Mangione with first-degree murder, according to an online court filing filed Monday.
Mangione – the 26-year-old suspect in the shooting death of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson – was also charged with possession of a loaded firearm, possession of a forged instrument and criminal possession of a weapon , according to the file.
The counterfeit instrument is the fake New Jersey driver’s license he allegedly used to check into the Upper West Side hostel.
Mangione remains in the custody of the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections pending extradition to New York.
The charges filed by the New York Police Department came hours after Mangione was arrested in Altoona, Pennsylvania, after he was identified by a McDonald’s employee.
The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections released Mangione’s photo Monday evening.
He was charged with five felonies, including carrying a gun without a license, forgery, falsely identifying himself to authorities and possessing “instruments of crime,” according to a recently released criminal complaint.
