M62 blocked after ‘five or six’ car accident – LIVE updates

All lanes on the M62 westbound are blocked after a major collision.

The smash took place between junctions 22 (Denshaw) and 21 (Milnrow) on the motorway.

Police have tweeted that the incident involves five or six vehicles.

The full statement from the officers said: “M62 J22 to J21 westbound. We have a report of a 5/6 vehicle RTC.

“All lanes are blocked.

“Police and highways are on their way to the scene.”

  • Head west, leave the M62 motorway using exit 22 and continue to the junction at the end of the access road.
  • At the junction, turn left onto the A672 and continue on this road for approximately 5 miles to the junction with the A640.
  • Turn right onto the A640 at the junction and continue on this road for approximately 5 miles to the roundabout with the A6193.
  • At the roundabout, take the 1st exit A6193 and continue on this road for approx. 500 m to the junction with the M62 motorway (exit 21).
  • At the roundabout, take the 1st exit to rejoin the M62 West.


The highway is closed in a westerly direction to clear major oil spills

A statement from Highways England said:

The M62 westbound is closed between J22 and J21, to clear a large amount of oil and diesel after a collision with several vehicles.

Contingency is present.

Delays are likely on the approach to this closure, with additional travel times also expected on the diversion route. “
