Mammoth Mountain experienced its snowiest November since 2010, with a massive storm dumping nearly 50 inches on the Eastern Sierra resort town earlier this week, the National Weather Service said Thursday.
The system that passed through the region November 23-26 brought nearly 50 inches of snow. In total, the mountain received 62 inches this month, the station said. This is an inch more than in November 2022, which marked the start of a record winter season in the resort.
“It’s really significant: It’s the first big storm of the season,” said Gigi Giralte, a weather service meteorologist.
Thanksgiving weekend will be dry on the mountain: Giralte said no snow is expected through Sunday. This means that the 88 inches of snow Mammoth received in November 2010 will remain the record for the month this century.
In the Southland, Thursday’s mild weather will continue through the weekend, with temperatures in the low to mid-70s. On Sunday, the temperature could reach around 80 degrees, said weather service meteorologist Ryan Kittell .
