A man accused of drugging and sexually assaulting nine women at his Los Angeles County home, and allegedly killing one of the victims as she died after being drugged, faces more than a dozen charges criminal charges, prosecutors announced Friday.
Michael DiGiorgio, 50, allegedly committed the assaults between May 2019 and November 2021 at his home in Redondo and Hermosa Beach, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. He has been charged with 18 counts, including murder, forcible rape and unconscious rape, prosecutors said, and faces life in prison if convicted of all charges.
Prosecutors also filed a special allegation that he caused serious bodily injury to a victim during the delivery of a controlled substance, which carries an enhanced sentence under California Penal Code Section 12022.7 .
DiGiorgio was scheduled to be arraigned Friday at a downtown Los Angeles courthouse. CBS News Los Angeles reached out to the district attorney’s office for information on the manner of his plea.
No further details about the alleged crimes or the investigation were released by the prosecutor’s office in a statement.
“I express my deepest sympathy to the victims, whose lives were irrevocably changed and lives lost by the alleged brutal acts of the offender,” prosecutor George Gascón said in the statement. “I encourage anyone with information related to these or any other incidents involving Mr. DiGiorgio to report it to the Redondo Beach Police Department.”
Prosecutors released a photo of DiGiorgio because investigators believe there may be more victims.
The charges against him include:
- one count of murder
- one count of forcible rape
- two counts of forcible sexual penetration
- three counts of rape by drug use
- two counts of sodomy involving drug use
- five counts of sexual penetration by drug use
- one count of oral copulation using a drug
- one count of rape of an unconscious person
- two counts of delivering a controlled substance
