A man has appeared at the Old Bailey charged with the murder of two men whose remains were found in suitcases at Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol and in a London flat.
Yostin Andres Mosquera, of Scotts Road, Shepherd’s Bush, west London, is accused of murdering Albert Alfonso, 62, and Paul Longworth, 71, between July 8 and 10 in the London borough of Hammersmith and Fulham.
The defendant, a Colombian national, appeared by videoconference and was placed in pre-trial detention. He listened attentively to the proceedings, which were broadcast by his Spanish interpreter.
Mr. Mosquera is scheduled to appear again in the same court for a plea hearing on October 2.
Prosecutor Teresa Hay, also in court via video link, formally charged Mr Mosquera with killing the two men.
She told the court she was not aware of any connection between the defendant and the UK other than the one who had died.
Mr Longworth was British and Mr Alfonso was originally from France and had British nationality.
Ms Hay told the court that Avon and Somerset Police were called to Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol shortly before midnight on July 10, where officers discovered human remains in suitcases linked to an address in Shepherd’s Bush, west London.
Police entered the London address, in Scotts Road, where they found further remains, the prosecutor said.
Following a high-profile search, the defendant was arrested at 02:15 BST on Saturday at Bristol Temple Meads railway station.
Mr Mosquera’s lawyer, Edward Hetherington, also appearing via video link, did not apply for bail.
