A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of Rikki Berry. The 36-year-old father-of-two was shot dead on Quarryside Drive in Kirkby on Wednesday, July 17.
Adam Williams, of Hamblett Crescent in St Helens, was today charged with the murder of the father, also known as ‘Nuggy’. The 25-year-old appeared at Liverpool Crown Court this afternoon, Friday, to answer to the charge.
He spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth during a brief two-minute hearing and was not asked to enter a plea. Williams, who wore a grey prison tracksuit and sported short brown hair in the dock, was remanded in custody ahead of a further appearance at Liverpool Crown Court on Monday.
The ECHO previously reported that Mr Berry was shot outside a house in Quarryside Drive shortly after 6.30pm on the day in question. He was later pronounced dead in hospital.
Nine arrests have been made so far in connection with the shooting, the most recent being last Wednesday when two men and a woman were arrested in Oswestry, Shropshire. A 24-year-old man, of no fixed address, and a 21-year-old woman, from Kirkby, have since been released on bail pending further enquiries by Merseyside Police.
