Armed officers seize knife after several people injured in ‘major incident’, Merseyside Police say

Armed police have arrested a knife-wielding man after a stabbing attack in Southport left several people dead.
Merseyside Police said they were responding to a “major incident” at a property in the seaside town.
A force spokesman said there were “a number of casualties reported” and further details would be confirmed as soon as possible.
Police were called to reports of a stabbing on Hart Street in Southport at around 11.50am, where armed police arrested a man and seized a knife.
The man was taken to the police station and there was no threat to the public there, police said.
The North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) said its paramedics were responding to reports of “multiple stabbings” in Southport.
A statement from NWAS on social media said: “We are attending a major incident on Hart Street, Southport following reports of multiple stabbings to which we have dispatched multiple resources.
“We are assessing the situation and working with emergency partners.”
