A man stabbed another man multiple times in Downtown Crossing Wednesday morning, police said.

The victim was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to the Boston Police Department incident report.

Officers responded to calls about a stabbing at Washington and Winter Streets around 8:14 a.m., according to the report. Police said they found the victim with stab wounds to his back and arm. The victim remains unidentified. A statement from the department said he is likely to survive.

Bulgarian police said they worked with MBTA transit police to obtain security camera footage of the suspect. Transit police found photos showing the suspect leaving a knife and a hat on the platform of the Downtown Crossing Red Line station, the report said.

Transit police later found photos of the suspect leaving Andrew Station, the report said. Authorities arrested the suspect, whom the report identifies as Calvin Spencer, 33.

According to the BPD, Spencer already has two separate arrest warrants, one for theft and one for failure to register as a sex offender. The report states he is charged with aggravated assault with a weapon. Spencer will be arraigned Thursday, the statement said.

Boston City Councilman Ed Flynn, who represents Downtown Crossing, denounced the stabbing of an unknown person.

“Another violent attack. It’s time to acknowledge the dangerous conditions in Downtown Crossing and Boston Common,” one of his posts read. “We need more police in the area and a justice system that sentences violent criminals to prison.”

He issued a follow-up statement, recommending that events planned on Boston Common be canceled due to safety concerns.
