This video shows the shocking moment a man is caught trying to throw a $25,000 drug stash into a Class B prison by climbing the perimeter fence.
Hubert Berus, 23, was repeatedly filmed on CCTV running towards HMP Peterborough before throwing a parcel of drugs over the prison walls.
A prison guard was alerted to the activity and spotted Berus and two others fleeing to the nearby skate park and hiding something in a railing.
A packet containing Class A drugs – with a prison value of around $25,000 – was recovered and later found to contain Berus’ DNA.
A package containing almost $2,600 worth of cannabis and tobacco was also recovered on another occasion during the frenzy between January and May 2021.
It had landed in the barren area between the prison wall and the playground and contained Berus’ DNA.
Berus’ cell phone was downloaded following his arrest for an unrelated case in March 2021.
Officers discovered messages in which he boasted about throwing a parcel into HMP Peterborough, but it “bounced off the wall” and he had to throw it again.
This was captured on CCTV – confirming the suspect is Berus.
Berus was arrested in Peterborough, Cambs, by plainclothes officers on October 21, 2021.
Berus appeared at Peterborough Crown Court on October 4 where he was sentenced to a total of three years and two months in prison, after admitting being concerned in the supply of cocaine, heroin and cannabis.
His sentence also included a charge of affray, alongside Kevinas Lazauskas, 20, in relation to an incident in Eastfield, Peterborough, on October 22, 2023.
Early in the morning, police received a 999 call from a man in distress saying men wearing balaclavas were outside his home.
They threatened to attack his cousin who was in the house with him.
Lazauskas was jailed for a total of one year and 11 months after admitting affray, possession with intent to supply cannabis and breaching a suspended sentence for drug offenses.
Detective Constable Jacob Reeves said: “This case not only shows our commitment to tackling drug trafficking in our county, but also the seriousness of prohibited items entering our prisons.
“This absolutely will not be tolerated.
“The investigation was long and complex, but I am pleased that Berus has now admitted his crimes and will spend a significant amount of time behind bars.”
